About the Role:

The Rotating Equipment Technician will be responsible for carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance activities in line with approved maintenance strategies, procedures and work instructions.

The primary objective is to maintain the availability, reliability and integrity of critical rotating equipment and systems while ensuring all work is completed safely and according to Shell’s maintenance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be involved in diagnosing and resolving complex rotating equipment issues and carrying out overhauls on both large and small equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting and maintaining pumps, compressors, turbines, engines and generators.
  • Working with dry gas seals, wet seals, white metal bearings and mechanical transmission assemblies.
  • Performing cold and hot alignment of rotating equipment at site.
  • Inspecting gas turbines, including CI, HGPI and Major inspections, as well as minor and major steam turbine inspections.
  • Commissioning and testing rotating equipment after maintenance activities.
  • Checking shaft, stator, rotor and bearing clearances using precision measuring instruments.
  • Preparing job plans, cost estimates and estimated work durations.
  • Identifying spare-parts requirements and updating re-order quantities.
  • Interpreting technical drawings, OEM manuals, engineering standards and maintenance procedures.
  • Applying appropriate tools and precision measuring equipment.
  • Maintaining air systems and hydraulic components.
  • Applying the correct lubrication methods and lubricant types.
  • Supporting contract services and identifying appropriate controls for engineering hazards.

Safety is a key part of the position, and all activities must comply with Permit to Work requirements, company procedures and the Shell Code of Conduct.

Candidate Requirements:

Candidates should have a technical education in an engineering discipline, preferably at Diploma level or equivalent.

Applicants are expected to have approximately 8–12 years of proven Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industry experience, particularly in the maintenance of large rotating equipment.

Relevant technical knowledge includes:

  • Rotating equipment maintenance and overhaul.
  • Vibration monitoring and analysis.
  • Handheld and online equipment condition-monitoring systems.
  • International rotating equipment standards and Shell DEPs.
  • Workshop machining operations.
  • Dynamic balancing of rotating equipment.

  • Precision measurement and equipment alignment.
